Positioning- Finding Supporting Statistics

This week’s topic touches upon Pitching, Positioning, and Presenting social ventures. Presenting data visually and providing supporting statistics can help sway the audience to your benefit but the hard part is finding data about the market of interest. The article “Using the Internet for Market Research” provides helpful tips and resources to gain useful insight and data about different industries.

The source that has been the most helpful for my team has been the US Census Bureau’s website. The site provides a plethora of data on demographics in any state. We were able to get a breakdown of the population by age and race by county. In the health industry, understanding the needs for a particular population is important in developing a service for an area.

Many geriatric services are for-profit organizations which can be left out of some search pools when looking into health care services that serve the elderly population. Looking at these organization at a detailed level allows you to see if they are in the same market as you. The website Manta allowed us to see where the service is located and  provides information on the private companies such as the size of the organization and annual revenue.

With all these useful tools, how do we know when we have covered all aspects of the market? How do we know if the market is large enough to ensure a successful launch of our social venture?
