Encouraging Start

This weeks “14 Ways to be a Great Start-Up CEO” was a great way to reflect after coming off of spring break.  For me, it helped to focus me on the work that we are doing both in this class and in our programs.  It is easy to get bogged down in the due dates and exams, but ultimately we are here to gain skills to bring forward into our careers.

Two ways stuck out to me as encouraging and uplifting that are easy to forget or lose sight of; Be able to Learn on the Job and No Experience Almost Preferred.  The idea that your lack of experience could actually benefit a start-up feel as long as you keep the vision in check is a great reminder that being young is not a hindrance to achieving something great.  And even though we are learning skills in our classes here, ultimately it is up to us to continue to be learners in all of our experiences and that knowledge that we lack also does not need to be a hindrance.

"Don't worry about whether "you're qualified" as it's hard to put typical qualifications on the job. You'll learn the really core stuff along the way.” (Baptist).

I am going to try to keep this message in mind as the stress of job searching is right around the corner.  It’s also nice to read articles like this and reflect as a mental check list of characteristics we possess and ones that we need to seek out opportunities to grow in.  I know for me Having Technical Knowledge and Skillset along with Have an Uncanny Ability to Say No are both areas that I need to seek chances for growth.

What is everyone else working on this mini? What those areas for improvement or promises you made with this small fresh start to Mini 4?
